alumni weekend 2009

this year's IU Campus Radio Alumni weekend was Friday, August 7th - Sunday, August 9th, in Bloomington. As in recent years, we took over programming the radio station for the weekend, with live air shifts and a revival of the scavenger hunt for both local and online participants.

And, just like our college days, there was the mandatory Staff Meeting. The difference is that this year it was at at Nick's! Since we're all over 21, we enjoyed a variety of beverages — along with great stories and conversation.

Again, a big thanks to Neil and Don for organizing us. Another thanks to Don for finding and installing four vintage cart machines, loaded with spots from the 60's. Also thanks to Don, the audio quality was noticeably improved in the studio and on the FM airwaves. Perhaps you noticed better audio in the online stream?

For those who could not make it to Bloomington this year, plan now to save a weekend next summer and join us in Bloomington. Proposed and final dates for the 2010 Alumni Weekend will be posted here as soon as available.

And remember to check the IUCRAA Forum for postings on the 2009 and 2010 events.

alumni weekend 2008

The 2008 alumni broadcast weekend was another good time for all involved. You can read more about it by visiting the 2008 Alumni Reunion topic on the Forum site.

alumni weekend 2007

If you were back in Bloomington for the 2007 Alumni Weekend, you know what a good time it was. We celebrated the 40th anniversity of WIUS (which began broadcasting on the 1967 July 4th weekend) with 1967 era air-checks, commercials, The Man From COFFEE, interviews, and music. Craig Shank, WIUX GM, and his staff were great hosts, and kindly handed over control of the WIUX-FM broadcast studio to all of the alums who were eager and/or foolish enough to get back behind the microphone. (Man! Playing cuts from CD's is way harder than playing 45's on turntables!) You can experience a bit of the fun by viewing the photos and listening to air-checks from the weekend, all available in the Forum.

2004 IU Campus Radio Reunion

This was the first reunion event for IU campus radio, the result of a lot of hard work by Jim Hansen and Chris Gazel Ballard, who spent months finding most of the alumni, organizing the reunion, and creating the Indiana University Campus Radio Alumni Association (IUCRAA). Many others contributed with pre-event planning and on-site preparations, and the effort resulted in a very successful event. Photos and stories from the 2004 reunion event can be found in the Forum.

IUCRAA Leadership

In 2007, Jim Hansen handed over the leadership of IUCRAA to the duo of Neil Bolding and Don Worsham. George Powell continues as the financial officer, and Bruce Herrick continues as the webmaster. IUCRAA's charter is to support both the communications and activities of the IU campus radio First Decade alumni group, and the future success of IU campus radio and the students who lead and participate in WIUX-FM. Alumni are encouraged to donate time, experience, expertise, and money to ensure the continued success of campus radio at IU. If you want to contribute, contact Neil or Don via the contact page on this site.
